Crescent Closing the Food Gap

Childhood food insecurity leads to childhood hunger.

Crescent Cares is a mission we put into action every day, to service our People and our communities. Crescent's wellness program focuses on more than being free from illness but, is a spirited process of change and growth that lasts for a lifetime. Wellness addresses the broader spectrum of you and encompassing the overall balance of your physical, career, mental, and financial well-being. It speaks to the way you live your everyday life. It is not an end to be achieved, rather it is a lifestyle that you adopt. A key component of Crescent wellness is embracing and celebrating that we are part of a larger community and we aim to do our part whenever possible.

Crescent has worked with Childhood Food Solutions (CFS) in providing resources for those who are food insecure. Childhood food insecurity occurs when a family does not have a reliable system to provide year-round food. Research has found that 50% of households in poverty answered that they didn’t have money to get food or their food didn't last. There are 180 school days and 185 non-school days, and CFS focuses on providing sacks and boxes of groceries to elementary school children for non-school days.

In the last 45 days from mid-March through the end of April, Crescent has assembled, stored, and shipped a total of 8,115 CFS food boxes out of two of its contract packaging plant locations . We are but a small part of the solution. In Ohio alone, 1,691,910 people are struggling with hunger - and of them 510,030 are children. Our mission is to play a bigger role in our local communities’ well-being; ensuring that the people are supported and valued. Thank you, Crescent family, for your time, energy, and support in caring for our community, our Crescent People, and your hard work in the Childhood Food Solutions effort!

We can all make a difference in changing and improving the lives of others during this time. It's time to put the community back into community service. The Childhood Food Solutions program will kick off again later this year, but if you are food insecure and don't know where your next meal will come from, we are here to help, by connecting you to the experts.
